Course: Thai Herbal Compress Massage & Medicinal Recipes
This course is based on the book A Thai Herbal - Traditional Recipes for Health and Harmony written by the course instructor and best selling author, Dr. Pierce Salguero, and at present the only book ever written in English about Thai Herbalism.
Thai herbalism is vibrant tradition that was preserved over the centuries in the monasteries and temples of Bangkok, and which continues to be practiced in villages and cities throughout Thailand to this day. This course unlocks the secrets of the healing knowledge of Thai herbal massage so you can apply these principles with your clients.
Interested herbalists, massage therapists, and those with a curiosity about natural healing will find this course informative, interesting and exciting. The course focuses on the use of hand-made herbal compresses steamed and used in a massage treatment while in class.
Instruction will be provided on the equipment to use, theories and methods of application of herbal compresses during massage. Discussion of hot and cold herbal compresses will be covered as used in the traditional healing approach of Thailand. (This content is also in our Intermediate Thai Massage course.)
You will learn how to diagnose and treat disorders using the 4 element theory of Traditional Thai Medicine. We will also cover properties of herbs used in creating Thai herbal remedies and the medicinal properties of foods. (This content is also in our Thai Medicine Theory course.)

“My experience with the Basic Thai Massage course that the Thai Institute provides was wonderful. I learned a lot about our bodies. Where the art came from, the meaning, the benefits from giving this massage as well as receiving it. The setting of the class is very comforting. I think David was a wonderful teacher, he was fun and at the same time very specific. He is very patient as well as motivating. I highly encourage anyone who truly wants to help people heal to learn this technique because it is effective and many wonderful benefits will come from it. "
